TAMADO - "The Way of the Soul"

- exerpts from an article by Susan Alexjander

Although his techniques and frequency systems are often painstakingly exact (certain pitches corresponding to certain organs, for example), Maman is not rigid in his thinking. He likes the Chinese approach to energy: everything is always flowing and changing. It is never fixed. He created his own chi movement called Tao Yin Fa that creates energy flows for the l2 Chinese meridians, and he also works with the Indian chakra system.

Maman works on all the levels of the body, subtle and physical. He finds that different tones impact the different 'layers' and bodies (in as much as they can be separated): physical, mental, astral, etheric, causal. Tama-Do is about finding that fluid balance and harmony for all these levels of energy. Sound alone, he says, will not do it. You must add color to "fix" the sound, and movement to bring the treatment into the body, or to the cellular level. To reinforce it you need to follow up with movement. His patients are given movements based on ti ch'i or ch'i kung to practice at home after the session to regenerate the life force in the meridians.

Maman believes, along with Valerie Hunt and others, that disease begins first to manifest in one's field. It is seen as a disturbance partly programmed at birth. As we grow and develop, our subtle energy field becomes polluted. Toxins, stress, dissonances in our lives, all impact us. He determines which level is energy depleted - physical, etheric, astral, mental, psychic or spiritual and then decides which sound frequency to use. First he examines the pulse, then listens to the voice assisted by his clairvoyant abilities and intuition.

Tuning forks for Acupuncture

In his twenty years of research, Maman has found the exact frequency of each Acupuncture Shu Point, Mu Point on the back and Ear and Foot Reflexology Points. He uses tuning forks matching these frequencies on the acupuncture points of the body. As he explains in his book, The Body as a Harp: Sound and Acupuncture, the tuning forks used on the acupuncture points act on the physical and etheric level (etheric acupuncture points). The tail of the tuning fork gives the message to the acupuncture point itself and then to the meridian. The fork of the tuning fork vibrates in the etheric body and gives the same message to the etheric energy. When you put a tuning fork on the Shu point, it balances the energy because the vibration goes exactly where it is needed.

The impulse is given by the vibration of the tuning fork. With the acupuncture needle you send a message to the meridian. The tuning fork works faster because the vibration of sound travels faster than the vibration of the needle.

Because the sound also touches the etheric points, the tuning fork vibration can work to dissolve the crystallization of energy in the etheric as well as in the physical. The perfect resonance is created inside and outside of the body. This resonance will diminish the adherence of the crystallization of energy representing the negative messages which are duplicated from the etheric to the physical body. Ideally even in acupuncture, we should take care of the subtle bodies inorder to eliminate the real source of most physical problems

Sound and Cells

Fabien Maman also found in his work that there is one particular frequency that is unique to each person. This frequency , which he calls the "fundamental sound has been verified at the cellular level under microscope and is discussed in his book The Role of Music in the Twenty-First Century. In his private sessions, Maman finds the fundamental sound of his clients and teaches them how to incorporate it into a daily practice.

With the biologist Helene Grimal and others, he discovered that blood cells when subjected to a scale of sound frequencies became coloured and altered their shapes according to the frequency. Dr. Caroline Shreeve reports on this process in an article for Subtle Energy Magazine, May, l989:

"The note A (440hz) changed them pink, C made them longer, E made them round, and D produced considerable colour variety. When cancer cells were subjected likewise to a chromatic scale, their intracellular components started to lose definition as the scale ascended, and generally disintegrated between A (440hz) and B."

She goes on to say: "Maman's research with cancer cells and sound may turn out to be one of the most significant and exciting discoveries of this century." cellYou can find out for yourself what research has transpired in the years since that article appeared. Maman's workshops present videos showing the influence of acoustic sound on human cancer cells as well as their disintegration after certain sound sequences. The workshops also address how vibratory messages are recorded in subtle bodies, an introduction to Kototama and the dynamics of language, the different orders of sound in the structure of the universe, and more. Maman's desire is to train as many practioners as he can to carry out his work, and he says that it is definitely repeatable.

The Power of Harmonics

Harmonics, he believes, are vital for health. Because electronic instruments lose at least 50% of the overtones needed to nourish the subtle bodies, he uses only acoustic instruments in his work and on his recordings.

Compact discs have their problems (they cut off sound above 20,000hz, depriving us of the higher harmonics), but Maman has an exquisite recording that I recommend. It's called "Resonance of Ancestral Memories" and includes Chinese gong, ocarina, rain sticks, vocal overtones, Tibetan Bowls, bamboo flutes, tuning forks, chimes, koto, water drums and other fabulous sounds rich in harmonics, all performed by Maman. He uses it in his sessions because it has a natural progression in the first section, designed to strengthen the subtle bodies. The second section is a monochord alone so that you can meditate quietly or play along with an instrument.

Music For The Future

Fabien Maman is first and foremost a musician. Before his healing practice became all-consuming he performed original compositions with his quintet in some of the great concert halls of the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Tokyo Opera, the Paris Olympia and the Berlin Philharmonic. When I asked him what his dreams of the future might be, his whole being lit up. "I would like to perform healing music," he said. And he has a lot of ideas about what that might look like (see The Role of Music In The Twenty-First Century).

During his many years of touring he began to notice some peculiar phenomena. Certain compositions which moved an audience one night had no effect the month after, or at a different time of the day. As he took careful note of these fluctuations he realized that certain keys, times of the day, and even seasons affected the sounds, just as the Indian Raga system teaches. This knowledge accrued over the years might someday serve him well if his dream of a traveling performing group materializes. He would take his troupe on the road with a tent, he says, creating the most beautiful sounds to touch our deepest being.

"The seed of the spiritual is found in the physical. In the heartof the cells, in the spiral of the DNA, is written the divine story. When scientific research, spiritual practice and artistic expression work together, heaven and earth are in resonance. This is the vibratory promise which is the gift of our musical universe."
