"French musician, composer, acupuncturist, and martial artist Fabien Maman is recognized as the founder of vibrational sound therapy. He was the first to document under a microscope, the impact of acoustic sound on human cells and their energy fields. In 1988, he created Tama-Do ("Way of the Soul"), the Academy of Sound, Color and Movement, and dedicated it to the evolution of human consciousness through research, teaching, and creativity. He is the author of several books and healing CDs and travels and teaches worldwide, performing seasonal harmonizing concerts for the benefit of the human soul.

Maman's explorations have led him to proclaim music as the highest sacred art. "Music gives back the actual vibratory message, not the symbol in writing of the representation as in painting," he says. "Music touches the original essence. When a musician works with sound, it is as if he or she were placing an ear on the heart of nature."

We can carry negative energy around with us for years and, if not cleared, the weight of the negative energy may eventually manifest as physical sickness. "By the time we feel a pain in our kidneys or our lung, we have been 'working on it,' unconsciously, for a very long time," he says. Maman has created a system of healing through the clinical application of music and musical tones. As a trained acupuncturist, he was able to verify the fundamental note for each of the 12 acupuncture meridians to restore balance and harmony to the body.

"Health is harmony and balance," says Maman. "In music, harmony occurs when two notes vibrate in resonance with each other. There is a synergy, a vibratory affinity, that creates an opening - a space between the two notes. Harmony opens all dimensions of one's being, from ancestral memories to cosmic purpose."

The Tao of Sound is a beautiful and enlightening book, filled with photographs of human cells responding to acoustic sound with bursts of color and light. It also is full of hope for a future medicine that will recognize and respect our connection with the natural world. Maman's research will be of interest to musicians, healers, practitioners of acupuncture and Chinese medicine, mathematicians, and all who seek a healthful, non-invasive way to restore their innate harmony and balance for health and healing.
